The organizers, including Andy Hudson, the winner of this year's prestigious trophy, have witnessed the event's growth from humble beginnings. What started as a tribute to Anne has inadvertently transformed into a successful fundraising initiative, with support from renowned figures like golfer Tyrrell Hatton.
This year, the golf day moved to Formby Hall Golf Club, Anne's hometown, maintaining the sense of community and purpose that defines the event. Gareth Penman, one of the organizers, emphasized the event's importance, stating, "It's a wonderful way for us to come together and remember Anne's legacy."
The proceeds from this year's golf day will benefit Flourish & Succeed, a rapidly growing wellbeing organization in Merseyside. Founded by Michael Fielding MBE, Flourish & Succeed offers a range of support services, including mental health groups, wellbeing activities, and community programs, reaching hundreds of people across Knowsley and beyond.
Sandra Fearns, the director of Flourish & Succeed, describes the organization as a "one-stop shop" for community needs, providing a much-needed support system for individuals of all ages. The organization's impact is evident at Craig's Community Centre in Stockbridge Village, where parents, children, and volunteers create a warm and welcoming environment, offering a much-needed respite from isolation.
Karen Keefe, a regular attendee, shares her experience, explaining how Flourish & Succeed has become a lifeline for her autistic grandson and the entire community. "It's a place where everyone is welcomed and supported," she says.
Meanwhile, at Formby Hall Golf Club, golfers unite for a common cause - to honor Anne Williams and support charities in Liverpool. Anne's dedication to uncovering the truth about the Hillsborough tragedy and her unwavering commitment to justice have left an indelible mark on the city.
Ste Martin, one of the organizers, reflects on Anne's inspiring legacy, stating, "The social impact of the charities we support is immense. Every donation we make is multiplied through the support they provide to those in need."
